How to Play Colour Match (Stroop)
A colour name is shown in a different ink colour. Tap the button matching the INK COLOUR, not the word.
Tip: Ignore what the word says — focus only on the colour you can see.
💡 Color Memory Strategy
- Say the colours out loud. Converting the sequence to speech gives you a second, more durable channel to recall it from.
- Chunk in threes. "Red-blue-green / yellow-red" is far easier to hold than five separate items, and the effect gets stronger as sequences lengthen.
- Give it a rhythm. Tapping the sequence out as a beat encodes the order as much as the colours.
- Watch the whole sequence before reaching. Starting your first input while the demonstration is still playing is what breaks most long runs.
- Expect the wall around seven. Most people plateau there; chunking is what gets you past it, not concentrating harder.
🧠 What Color Memory Builds
This is sequential memory — holding order, not just content — which is what recalling a phone number or a set of directions actually depends on. The game makes the limits of short-term span very visible, usually somewhere between five and nine items, and it makes the benefit of chunking equally visible within a single session. It is a compact, honest measure of a specific capacity rather than a general one.
