How to Play Pixel Art
Click cells on the grid to colour them. Switch colours with the palette. Choose a larger grid for more detailed art.
Tip: Start with the background colour, then add foreground details on top.
💡 Getting the Most From Pixel Art
- Sketch the outline first. Establishing the shape in one colour before filling avoids running out of room for the details.
- Count squares before starting. Knowing the grid is 16 wide tells you how much detail is actually possible.
- Use symmetry. Faces and creatures are usually symmetric, so building one half and mirroring it is both faster and neater.
- Step back from the screen. Pixel art is designed to resolve at a distance; up close it always looks blocky.

Working on a fixed grid turns drawing into a planning problem — every square is a deliberate decision, and there is no room for approximation. That constraint develops spatial precision and patience in a way free drawing does not. Suited to ages 6 and up.
