How to Play Colour Learning

A colour name is shown — tap the matching coloured object or circle as quickly as you can.

Tip: Look at the colour, not just the word — sometimes they don't match!

💡 Playing Color Learning With Your Child

  • Name colours in context. "The red apple" attaches better than "red" on its own, because the colour is a property of something.
  • Start with the strongly distinct ones. Red, blue, yellow and green are learned well before orange, purple and brown.
  • Sort before you name. Many children can group by colour correctly before they can produce the word for it, and sorting is real progress.
  • Expect blue and green to blur. These two are commonly confused well past age five and simply need more exposure, not correction.

🧠 What Color Learning Teaches

Colour naming is one of the first abstract categories children learn — a colour is not an object, it is a property shared across objects. The gap between sorting correctly and naming correctly is normal and often lasts months, which is worth knowing before it looks like a problem. Suited to ages 3 to 6.
