How to Play Spelling Bee
Make as many words as possible using the 7 letters shown. Every word must include the centre letter and be at least 4 letters long.
Tip: Look for pangrams — words using all 7 letters — for big bonus points.
💡 Spelling Bee Strategy
- Find the short words first. Four-letter words build momentum and reveal which letter combinations actually work in this set.
- Test every prefix and suffix. Once a stem works, check whether -S, -ED, -ING or RE- also produce valid words from the same letters.
- Look for a word using every letter. Most puzzles hide at least one, and it is usually the highest-scoring entry available.
- Say combinations aloud. Hearing a letter group often triggers recognition that reading it silently does not.
- Return after a pause. Word puzzles are unusually responsive to a short break — the words you could not see are often obvious on a second pass.
🧠 What Spelling Bee Builds
Building words from a restricted letter set exercises retrieval rather than recognition: you must produce the word from memory instead of picking it from a list. That is a harder and more useful test of vocabulary, and it is why the format has endured. The prefix-and-suffix habit typically doubles a player's word count on any given puzzle.
