How to Play Word Search
Find all the hidden words in the grid. Words can run horizontally, vertically, or diagonally in any direction. Click the first and last letter of each word.
Tip: Scan one direction at a time — right, down, and then diagonally.
💡 Word Search Strategy
- Hunt first letters, not whole words. Scanning the grid for every Q when looking for QUILT is far faster than reading lines hoping a word appears.
- Look for unusual letters. J, X, Z, and Q appear rarely, so any word containing one is essentially pre-located.
- Sweep the diagonals deliberately. Most people find horizontal and vertical words naturally and then stall — the remaining words are almost always diagonal.
- Check backwards too. Words can run right-to-left and bottom-to-top, which is where the last two or three hides usually are.
- Scan columns as well as rows. Reading the grid vertically, one column at a time, catches what horizontal reading skips.

Word search is visual scanning applied to letters, and it exercises pattern recognition more than vocabulary — you are matching shapes, not defining words. That makes it welcoming across a very wide range of ages and reading levels, since the words are given to you. The first-letter technique is the single change that most improves completion time.
