How to Play Phonics Sounds
Listen to the sound and choose the letter or letter combination that makes that sound.
Tip: Say each option aloud to hear which one matches the sound.
💡 Playing Phonics Fun With Your Child
- Use the sound, not the letter name. "Buh" rather than "bee" — blending letter names produces nonsense and confuses beginners.
- Keep the sounds clean. Say a crisp "t", not "tuh"; the extra vowel makes blending much harder than it needs to be.
- Blend slowly, then speed up. Stretching "sss-aaa-t" before saying "sat" is what makes the blend audible.
- Start with continuous sounds. S, M, F and N can be held and stretched, which makes them far easier to blend than stop sounds like P or K.
🧠 What Phonics Fun Teaches
Phonics gives children a system for reading words they have never seen, which is what separates decoding from memorising. The pronunciation details matter more than they appear to — adding a vowel to consonant sounds is the most common home-teaching error and it measurably slows blending. Suited to ages 4 to 7.
