How to Play Checkers
Move your pieces diagonally forward. Jump over opponent's pieces to capture them. King pieces can move backwards too.
Tip: Force your opponent into positions where they must give up a piece.
💡 Checkers Strategy
- Hold your back row as long as you can. Those pieces stop the computer from crowning, and every king it gains roughly doubles its mobility.
- Advance in connected blocks. A piece with a friendly piece behind it cannot be safely taken; a lone advanced piece usually can.
- Control the centre. A centred piece has four possible jumps, an edge piece two. Edges feel safe and quietly cost you options.
- Count trades before you take. Captures are compulsory, so an inviting jump is often bait for a multi-jump reply.
- Trade pieces when ahead, not when behind. With a material lead, every exchange makes your advantage proportionally larger.
🧠 What Checkers Builds
Checkers is a complete strategy game underneath its simple rules — forced captures mean the board rewards setting traps rather than reacting move by move. Playing against a computer opponent gives consistent feedback that a human partner cannot, since the AI will punish the same mistake every time until you stop making it. Thinking two moves ahead is enough to improve quickly; three is enough to win.
