How to Play Spider Solitaire
Build eight sequences of cards from King to Ace in the same suit within the tableau. Complete sequences are removed.
Tip: Try to empty columns — empty columns act as free temporary spaces.
💡 Spider Solitaire Strategy
- Build in suit whenever you have the choice. A mixed-suit sequence cannot be moved as a unit, so it will block the column it sits in.
- Empty columns are the whole game. They are the only place you can reorder a stuck sequence. Treat creating one as a higher priority than any single build.
- Uncover face-down cards early. Once you deal a new row from the stock, everything gets harder — clear what you can before that.
- Never deal with an empty column you could still use. The deal fills every column, and you will not get that space back cheaply.
- Two decks means duplicates. There are two of every card, so a blocked build is rarely as fatal as it first appears.
🧠 What Spider Solitaire Builds
Spider is substantially harder than Klondike because the two-deck layout means most moves are reversible only in principle, and column space is the scarce resource. Good play is essentially resource management: spending moves now to create the empty column that makes later moves possible. Players who find Klondike too forgiving generally settle here.
